Stanford Engineering Puzzle

A big thanks to alumnus Ken Futamura for this month's puzzle, which is (to borrow a TV drama slogan) "ripped from the headlines." In other words, the solution to the puzzle is a pithy description of one of our recent research stories. We won't tell you which one, of course, but a hint would be that this is a puzzle in which SLACers should excel.

Directions

Complete the following headline. Each of the 7 words in the headline can be formed by combining a pair of clue words below and rearranging the letters.  Each of the 14 clue words is used once. When you are done, send the secret words to Marge Kastner. In this case the secret words are the two clue words you must combine to form the first word of the headline. Have fun.
