Giving opportunities
Supporting world-class programs
The School of Engineering comprises nine departments and an array of centers, institutes, and programs. While departments provide deep expertise in their academic disciplines and the curricula to train students, the various centers and institutes at Stanford provide opportunities for powerful interactions across disciplines. Two exciting new institutes at Stanford already have made an impact that stretches beyond engineering: The Hasso Plattner Institute of Design and the Institute for Computational and Mathematical Engineering. In the coming years, these two programs will provide strong models for teaching and research programs around the world.

The Plattner Institute harnesses the power of multidisciplinary teams from across academic disciplines and business expertise in a user-centered methodology to tackle real problems, and in the process gives students the tools to tackle such problems throughout their careers. The institute will be housed in a fully renovated facility located on the Panama Corridor, designed to encourage innovation and teamwork. The institute seeks support for faculty and lecturers, students, and programs.
Institute for Computational and Mathematical Engineering (iCME) | View »
iCME’s central research mission is to develop sophisticated algorithmic and mathematical tools to enrich the research process and to provide powerful new ways to teach and learn. iCME will leverage the outstanding strengths of Stanford in computation and modeling in engineering, the natural and physical sciences, as well as medicine, business, and policy. The institute will be an integral part of the new Engineering Center and library, and seeks support for teaching programs, research, and equipment.
