We invite Stanford students, staff, and faculty to join us for a discussion all about chapters 1 through 6 of Odd Girl Out: My Extraordinary Autistic Life. Author Laura James, a successful journalist and mother-of-four, is diagnosed with autism in her forties. In this work, Laura tells the story of the year in her life following her diagnosis. She offers insight from her experience, research, and interviews with experts. She explores gender and autism, the benefits of neurodiversity, and a path to self-discovery. During the Fall Quarter, the Popular Science Book Club will explore two works featuring individuals with autism. The two stories are unique, and the works juxtaposed offer a glimpse into how individuals experience autism differently.
