We invite Stanford students, staff, and faculty to join us for a discussion all about The Horse Boy. This documentary follows a couple and their son, Rowan, who was diagnosed with autism at two-years-old. Traditional medicine has offered little assistance to quell Rowan's outbursts, and his parents are seeking an alternative path to healing. Relying on a mutual love for horses and the help of shamans in Outer Mongolia, Rowan and his parents learn to connect. During the Fall Quarter, the Popular Science Book Club will explore two works featuring individuals with autism. The two stories are unique, and the works juxtaposed offer a glimpse into how individuals experience autism differently.
