R is a programming language widely used by statisticians. I hope students will leave this workshop with an understanding of R’s tools for scientific computation and data analysis. R is especially useful in my work as I develop statistical and computational methods for microbiome studies, a field focused on studying bacteria in the human body and in environmental samples from across the globe. We still don’t know about all of the bacterial species out there. This research could eventually lead to important health discoveries.
